Choosing the Right Sealant Sprayer: 4 Options to Consider

Once you’ve chosen the right sealant for your outdoor project, your next step will be applying it. So, what’s the best way to apply concrete and paver sealant? Well, you’ve got two options. You can use a roller to put it on in the same way you might paint a wall. The problem with this method should be obvious if you need to apply the sealer to pavers – it will often leave an uneven coat. It can easily leave any cracks or crevices without the protective sealant that they need.

A better choice for applying sealant to an uneven space like pavers – or even stamped concrete – is to use a sealant sprayer. This is a popular tool that allows you to spray the sealant directly on the application area, ensuring steady, even coverage that hits even the hardest-to-reach places.

So, you may be wondering… What’s the best sealant sprayer to use? Do I need to buy a specialized sprayer that’s built for sealant application? Will any old garden sprayer work?

That’s what we’re going to discuss today as we consider several possible options for applying your sealant.

Four Types of Sealant Sprayers to Consider

1. Standard Pump Garden Sprayers

Yes, you can use a standard pump garden sprayer to apply your sealant. Or at least, you can if you’re applying a water-based sealer. Since solvent-based sealers have more active chemicals and corrosive agents, they are not recommended for garden sprayers. But if you’re using a water-based sealer, you can use the same sprayer you use for fertilizer and insecticide. If you go this route, it’s best to use a sprayer that has an adjustable fan sprayer tip so you can adjust it for your sealer’s consistency.

2. Solvent-Resistant Pump Sprayers

If your sealer is solvent-based rather than water-based, you’ll want to get a more heavy-duty sprayer that won’t break down in the presence of solvent coatings. Fortunately, since they’re more heavy-duty, they can just as easily be used with water-based sealers. So, no matter what kind of sealant you’re using, one of these sprayers will work. Make sure to get an adjustable fan tip for your sprayer so you can be sure to get your sealant where it needs to go effectively.

3. Airless and HVLP Sprayers

Airless and HPLV (High Velocity Low Pressure) sprayers make great options if you’re looking for a great way to apply your sealer coating. They generally offer a variety of adjustable tips so you can get the job done – no matter what your need.

When applying your sealer coating, you’ll want to apply two to three light coats. When applying, you’ll want to make sure that the sealer doesn’t puddle and if it does, use a paintbrush to quickly smooth it out so there aren’t any unsightly bubbles or other imperfections. Even if your first coat is a little uneven, your second coat should help even things out.

4. Seal ‘n Lock Battery Operated Pail Pump Spray System
